GLOBAL – The Way We Live Next 3.0 event held last week at Nokia HQ in Espoo, Finland, gave us some insight into the future as Nokia sees it. From the Nokia devices that will bring the cloud to life, what the future holds for Symbian, Nokia’s efforts to drive open innovation around the world, and the opportunities for the future identified by trend research, we weren’t short on stuff to talk, or write about. One thing jumped out though, both at the time and since we come back. The 2015 video has definitely been the star of the show, clocking up over 140,000 views since we revealed it last week.
GLOBAL – Tucked away in a lesser-visited corridor on the Nokia Beta Labs site live a collection of exciting experimental apps. Last week we drew your attention to them in our video poll (a couple of which we know have already triggered your enthusiasm), to find out which of these innovative shards of software earned your vote as best in show. Read on to find out which app stormed to the top of the class.
GLOBAL – The folk over at Nokia Beta Labs continue to showcase and give public access to some super experimental Nokia apps, in a dedicated section reserved for innovative research prototypes. The sort of stuff that gives us goosebumps of the good variety. The latest app to appear, and as featured in our video stream, is a new Nokia Braille Reader (watch the full video). We know many of you are keen users of the apps found on Beta Labs, but you may not be familiar with all the cool things going on over there on a more experimental tip. So we’ve decided to run a video poll to find out which ones (yes, by popular demand we’re allowing you to pick more than one thing) you like best.
GLOBAL – Well that’s the verdict according to our most recent reader poll in which we posed you with the question what is the most important feature in a business device? It certainly surprised me that long battery life landed the top slot as the most crucial aspect of an enterprise device (of course I see it as important, but most important?). What’s interesting is that battery life has proved itself a most popular and top ranking feature in each of our recent series of polls, landing first place in the music phone stakes too. Opening the question, do we underestimate the significance of long battery lives, or does it remain true that some devices require it more than others (such as basic devices aimed at rural communities in emerging markets)? Share your thoughts on this topic and read on to find out all the results of our recent business phone reader poll.
GLOBAL – Last week we opened the Conversations polling station to find out how many phones you carry, with a view to discussing why some folk carry multiple devices and exploring the solutions related to this topic. It was great to see so many of you get involved (we counted 825 votes – not by hand, of course), and as is often the case with this sort of poll some fascinating new debates and fresh stories emerged from within the sea of numbers, including some interesting chatter on dual SIM phones. Read on to find out how many devices most of you here reading Conversations carry in your pocket(s).
GLOBAL – In our series of “most important feature” polls, it seems we left out one type of phone that some folks were asking us about: business phones. But, what makes a business phone? In this day of always-on entrepreneurs, life-work balance, and greater business features across a portfolio of devices (from voice-only to full-blown Booklets), does it still make sense to separate out some features that should be optimized to make a phone more business-savvy? Well, there’s only one way to find out: to the polls!
GLOBAL – A few days ago we posted a reader poll to open up a discussion on how many phones you carry (if you haven’t already, get your vote counted today). We’re only a few days into the voting and already the response has been great, with over 700 of you getting involved. Notably, the current poll figures show that 56% of the Nokia Conversations readership carry two or more phones. Equally as interesting is the fact that the topic of dual SIM phones has somewhat naturally bubbled to the surface in tandem and become the hot topic of debate related to the question how many phones do you carry? This week’s award goes to one of you keenly involved in the debate.
Read on to find out who wins this week’s copy of the Gravity Twitter app, and to join the dual SIM discussion.
GLOBAL – It’s funny, this sounds like a somewhat outdated question from a bygone era of mobility where one pocket was reserved for the work phone and one for your personal device. Not so, as Gary H highlights in our recent story Excitement at reading the tea leaves, resurfacing the question with his comment declaring that he carries multiple devices: “Well how’s this – how many people carry 2 phones now. I’m using 3!”
Later this week we’ll be running a piece asking you what makes a good enterprise device, but in the meantime, we’re interested to kick-start a conversation around this topic of carrying multiple devices, discussing why we do, and if it’ll ever truly become a thing of the past.
Cast your vote today, and if you carry more than one device, please share the reasons why you do in the comments section further down.
GLOBAL – Last week we talked about Nokia’s new Progress Project in collaboration with Lonely Planet. It encompasses a bunch of Nokia initiatives that see technology used to help improve the quality of life of people in emerging markets, and empower folk with valuable and often life-changing info and tools. Life Tools and Nokia Data gathering are two of the more talked-about projects. But we remain keen to find out what you want to know more about, so last week we posed that question in our latest poll.
We’re going to take your responses to David Mason, one of the guys responsible for the Progress Project, with an aim to bringing you more on these stories (we’ll keep you posted). Read on to find out what you collectively voted for after the break.
GLOBAL – Regular readers will be familiar with our coverage here on Conversations of Nokia solutions and initiatives taking place in emerging markets, and our keen interest in shining a spotlight on the activities in rural communities and areas where a service can be life changing. Such as the Life Tools and Data Gathering projects. Yesterday we brought you an update on the Progress Project (which includes these and number of other similar projects), and a bunch of videos highlighting a few of the initiatives currently being undertaken.
However, we’re aware that we’re relaying stories on these fascinating stories and important projects, but not necessarily asking you guys what you’d like us to explore on this topic and related matters. So we thought we’d run a poll to help us find out what’s of most interest and what you’d like to see more of. Let us know, and make suggestions by selecting the ‘other’ option in the poll below. And as ever, keep your comments and opinions flooding in.
