ESPOO, Finland – James and I are here at Nokia’s Way We Live Next event, listening to folks talk about what Nokia sees the future of the industry may be like. One of the talks this morning was by David Rivas, big guy from S60 R&D. He spoke mostly about the Symbian Foundation.
GLOBAL – Over the past couple of weeks we’ve been pointing our telescope at a constellation of smart mobile apps that were hand-picked to receive Nokia support as part of the 2008 Forum Nokia Innovation Series initiative.
INTERNATIONAL – Continuing our spate of showcases on the developers and apps being championed by the 2008 Forum Nokia Innovation Series program, Qik is the latest to step into the frame. We’ve talked about this smart live video streaming app Qikpreviously on Conversations, so it’s great to see Nokia support the service with a view to making it a seriously significant and globally recognized piece of mobile software. ESPOO, Finland – It’s no secret that Nokia is laser-focussed on evolving cutting-edge software and services with juggernaut-like impetus. Whether it’s location-based, mobile TV driven, media streaming or otherwise, the commitment is simple – if an application is innovative and promises to improve the mobile space, Nokia wants to help it and the folks making the software succeed.
INTERNATIONAL – Having chatted to Kristian Luoma, the guy heading up Nokia Chat, about the vision and ambitions for this new GPS instant messaging app, I decided to ask him about location-based services (LBS) and the wider picture.
INTERNATIONAL – Over the past couple of years as users we’ve been equipped with a truckload of first and third-party tools for digitally sharing media via our phones. Now we demand to share even faster, more effortlessly and definitely without having to spend any cash. When it comes to photos these boxes have been pretty much ticked, with countless mobile apps facilitating those needs, but doing the same with live video has been off the mainstream menu until very recently.
