LONDON, England - Earlier today we caught up with Lee Williams, who heads up S60. Given the scale of the news about Symbian (we’re still in shock, but in a good way) it was a brilliant opportunity for us to get some insight from one of those most deeply involved. As head of S60 Lee is hugely positive about the move, how it’ll impact Nokia and the industry as a whole. GLOBAL – Nokia today announced the creation of the Symbian Foundation, but what is it exactly, and what does it mean for the rest of us? The Foundation has the backing of key industry players including Sony Ericsson, Motorola, Samsung, networks including DOCOMO and Vodafone and chip makers ST Microelectronics and Texas Instruments. By making the Symbian Platform fully open source, it means anyone can develop for it, there’ll be a single, unified operating system for mobile phones and rapid innovation of services and software.

INTERNATIONAL – Back in April the team over on the See Into S60 blog launched a video contest, dubbed Show your S60 Smarts. The idea? Simply to find the best stories for why many of us love certain S60 apps, and how they become an intrinsic part of our day-to-day. The response was awesome, with heaps of creative short videos uploaded to the Show your S60 Smarts group on YouTube.
