Symbian S60 5th edition rolls out
LONDON, England – Not only have we been treated to Comes With Music and
a brand new handset, but Symbian is getting in on the act as well with a new edition of S60.

ESPOO, Finland – James and I are here at Nokia’s Way We Live Next event, listening to folks talk about what Nokia sees the future of the industry may be like. One of the talks this morning was by David Rivas, big guy from S60 R&D. He spoke mostly about the Symbian Foundation.
NEW YORK, USA – Going to be in New York this week? Looking for something to do on Wednesday night? Not any more. The bods over at S60 are hosting another “evening with S60″ at the Nokia Flagship store on 5 E 57th Street, NY 10022. If you didn’t see our last post on the Milan event, then read on to find out what it’s all about.
INTERNATIONAL – Since news broke of the new Symbian Foundation flames of speculation have been burning across the web with talk of Symbian combining with Android. Of course, any significant announcement such as this is a tasty subject for the rumour mill to sink its teeth into, however Nokia has released an official statement that slices through the speculation and delivers clarity on the situation. Read on…
ESPOO, Finland – Last October myself and a couple of coach loads of international journalists made our way up to Oulu in northern Finland. About 100km south of the Arctic circle, I thought it an odd place for a media event, until we found out what The Way We Live Next was all about. In short, it’s like a window on Nokia Research Centre (NRC), where the juicy future projects being worked on are rolled out for the
selected media to poke, prod and write about.
ESPOO, Finland – We asked a colleague, Janne Jalkanen, about the Symbian deal. He not only has experience with the inner workings of S60 in Nokia, but he was the creator of JSPwiki, a popular open source Java-based wiki sofware.
GLOBAL – Nokia’s chief development officer is one Mary McDowell. She’s pretty involved in the whole Symbian Foundation thing and recently found time to talk to RCRWireless news about the recent announcement. Mary offers a pretty interesting perspective and the interview is well
worth a couple of minutes of your time.
We’re starting to lose count of all the Symbian Foundation stuff we’ve written this week, so we thought we’d do the decent thing and make a nice little compendium here for you to enjoy. Below you’ll find links to all the articles and we’ll be updating it as we add more (yes, there’s still more coverage to come!)
Initial shock – As soon as we heard the news, we posted

What the papers say – the nationals
What the papers say – the tech press
LONDON, England – We’re still blown away by Tuesday’s events, so much
so that we almost forgot about the notes we took during the Q&A at the launch.
Fear not dear brethren, as they’ve been resurrected and the choice cuts
revealed here for your delight.
GLOBAL – There’s been no shortage of coverage of what is possibly one of the biggest stories to hit technology for a long time.
The tech press have been ruminating long and hard on Nokia’s benevolent gesture of giving, for nada, its Symbian-owned OS, to the newly formed Symbian Foundation and opening up its platform to whoever wants a piece.
