ROME, Italy – Earlier this week we brought you word on the winners of the Nokia Games Innovation Challenge, which saw a Ghostwire earn first place for it’s mould-breaking gameplay concepts, including action that see you use of your handset’s camera to augment reality and go ghost hunting in ‘real-life’.
ESPOO, Finland – James and I are here at Nokia’s Way We Live Next event, listening to folks talk about what Nokia sees the future of the industry may be like. One of the talks this morning was by David Rivas, big guy from S60 R&D. He spoke mostly about the Symbian Foundation.

GLOBAL – Today sees a brand new campaign kick off telling the story of some rather interesting Nokia Legends. Designed to show off Nokia’s technology leadership credentials, eight videos form the campaigns backbone, each exploring technology that’s about to come out, due out in the next year or two or is simply an interesting piece of research. The idea is pretty straightforward, show how real some stuff that might seem unreal actually is. And, tell those technology’s stories. This goes well beyond acronyms and stats, planting new technology right into the palms of regular folks.
HOLLYWOOD, USA – Despite the emergence of ‘affordable’ consumer standalone high-def camcorders, many of us remain content with shooting home movies in standard definition and are even satisfied with capturing those motion-filled moments in lesser quality. And of course, much of this digital footage is shot using the camcorder capabilities built into heaps of today’s handsets. Why is is it we’re happy to document our lives this way?
GLOBAL – Mike gave us the heads up on this earlier, but now we’ve got full access to the new Ovi videos available for your enjoyment. The videos give us a little insight into the new features rolling out on Ovi and a closer look at some of the tastier elements. Wondering what the little fellas with wings are in the first vid? They’d be new Ovi icons, soon to be making appearances in places you might not previously imagine. Mike has more on that, and there’s talk of a video interview later with the people responsible later in the week.
HELSINKI, Finland – Yesterday, we came across Jeppe, a mobile mini home video conferencing prototype robot. The latest concept to emerge from the minds working inside the Nokia Research Center’s Smart Spaces laboratory, since posting our story the team has uploaded a video of the little critter in action. HELSINKi, Finland – This morning I came across an unusual new character in the Nokia corridors – a wheeled home video conferencing robot called Jeppe. It’s the latest creation to emerge from the Nokia Research Centre Smart Spaces lab, a place where the teams focus on researching innovative solutions to how devices and services talk to each other, and applications such as remotely managing our homes or tracking our general well-being using “smart environments”. In this instance, the Jeppe prototype is a new experiment that explores how we might accept a different breed of video communication in our homes that’s more compelling and breaks the mould of the traditional PC/webcam scenario.

INTERNATIONAL – Yesterday I was keen to shine the spotlight on Nokia’s new location-based CO2 offsetting software. Simply called we:offset its the first mobile app to calculate your carbon footprint when you travel by aeroplane, and even do it automatically using location-based info.
